Charlie Girl
Female | Approx 11 months |Breed Staffy x
Hi, I’m Charlie Brown. I’m a 11 month-old very intelligent and active mixed breed girl.
I’ll be medium size once fully grown.
Rescued from the pound as a 12-week-old wee pup, I was a little rough round the edges – having missed that important training in my formative months.
To give me the BEST start, I’ve been staying with a lovely trainer, Christine, whose transformed my life!
Now, let me just say, it’s VERY important I find the right active home – with that quality one-on-one human time – where I can continue to progress and blossom.
A wonderful foster home would suit me too – but preferably a permanent home, where you and I can build on everything I’ve already achieved.
I need loving humans that will keep my mind and body busy. I LOVE learning new things and I’d make an excellent running or mountain biking companion.
I’m very alert and aware of everything around me – much more than your typical family pet, you see, and I need humans that understand and appreciate that about me.
In return, I’ll bond very strongly to them.
Let me tell you about my journey so far and ALL I’ve learnt…
We began by starting daily training, on a long line, to establish consistent recall, while I got used to my new name.
In the first three days, I’d mastered all the basics! I could come when called, sit when asked, and I would lay down on command.
At the end of every day, Christine and I would play a game of soccer together, which I LOVE – or we’d track hidden treats, woohoo!
I made a new doggy friend - and they joined in on these games. That’s where I developed the ability to focus – even with the most fun distractions around me.
I quickly mastered the art of waiting patiently for my food bowl to be placed in front of me too.
Christine has now crate-trained me. I love my little safe cave and sleep soundly from 10pm.
I’ve learnt how to walk to a heel, beside Christine, with my nose constantly touching her hand that’s by her side.
I also practice a lot of leash walking in front of her, so I can get used to walking without pulling.
If I do forget myself, sometimes, and pull, then we stop moving. That’s when I know to come back to Christine and sit down next to her.
If I see another doggy, when out and about, I’ve learnt to focus on the treat in Christine’s hand instead.
We’ve been working very hard on desensitisation too. You see, as a pound puppy, I hadn’t had the chance to be exposed to all the new sounds and smells out there.
I am now used to traffic and the hustle and bustle around me. I’m not really phased by cars at all.
And if we’re out adventuring together on a walk, and I get muddy feet, I’m a good girl and calmly stand there while Christine washes my paws clean.
Christine is really my biggest fan! She says I’ve just completely blossomed, during our training journey together.
We love playing tug of war too, and I’m excellent at dropping on command. I’m very playful but never forget to try my best to please.
I’ve been living with four other dogs, since being here, and we’re all great friends.
I am a very trusting girl, with no fears or phobias – a loving and affectionate pup that will thrive in the right home.
If I do hear a noise or see an object that’s foreign to me, and I take a step back, Christine will scatter treats in the area, so I realise there’s nothing to worry about and develop a positive association.
My favourite part of everyday day is getting pats and belly rubs from Christine. That’s my reward for all my hard work.
I’ve really progressed in leaps and bounds, you see.
I hope, if you feel we’d fit well together – and you appreciate how much I’ve blossomed, and the dedication I’ve shown to my training – you’ll consider welcoming me into your life.
